In my journey to better health, I realized that sometimes we are doing too much at the expense of ourselves, families, social life, and more.
Here are four things I had to unlearn to keep my health on track, both for myself and to help others:
🎯 Saying "Yes" to Everything
One of the toughest lessons was learning to say “no” more often.
Whether it was social events or school commitments that added stress and time away from friends and family, I realized that a healthy boundary can make all the difference.
Now, I focus on making choices that align with my wellness goals, saying no to good things so I can say yes to great things.
🎯 Treating Rest as a Reward
I used to think rest had to be "earned" after a hard day's work. But here’s the truth: rest is essential, not a reward.
Prioritizing sleep, relaxation, and mental breaks has helped me stay energized and motivated.
It’s okay to take time off or just work your contracted hours without feeling guilty.
🎯 Believing in “Quick Fixes”
Quick fixes don’t work long term. Overloading on caffeine or restricting foods doesn’t work for the long haul.
True health takes time and appropriate boundaries.
Now I focus on long term habits like balanced meals, regular exercise and sleep, and sustainable routines.
🎯 Comparing Myself to Others
Comparison can be a sneaky thief of joy and progress.
I had to unlearn the habit of measuring my journey against others.
Now, I focus on my own progress and goals, focusing on what I can control and what I need based on my personal life, circumstances and preferences.
What works for me may not work for someone else—and that’s okay!
